Music in the Park

Music in the Park is an outdoor daytime jam held from spring through fall.  Looking for some late morning fun? Join us in the park! Everyone is welcome!

When and where are the jams?

We generally meet twice a month on selected Wednesday mornings from 10 am until 11:30 am at Larkey Park in Walnut Creek, CA.  See the Jam Schedule page for upcoming dates.

Who organizes the jams?

Members Ellen and Barry organize Music in the Park with help from Jeff L who generously provides sound equipment. Ellen and Barry announce the jams, collect song signups, secure a place at the park, make sure the sound is set up, and act as emcees.

What is the format of the jam?

All of the songs at Music in the Park are led by club members who volunteer. Members can sign up in advance to lead one or more songs from the "Yellow Book" or "Blue Book" (whichever is chosen by the organizer for that particular jam) or from our club database (accessible to club members only). Ellen and Barry create a song list based on member submissions and also usually include a selection of kid's songs for when little ones and their families stop by.

What should I bring to the jam?

Bring your ukulele, music, a chair, a music stand and sunscreen. You are welcome to bring snacks to share! If it's your first time attending and you don't yet have any chord sheets or books, don't worry. You can look on with someone else!

How much does Music in the Park cost?

The Music in the Park jam is free!

What about other instruments?

We are a ukulele focused group. We have a bass player who holds down the beat, and occasionally members provide a bit of percussion, whip out a harmonica for a solo, or add kazoo to songs that scream out for it. These are meant to complement the ukulele playing and singing that is going on, and we rely on our members to sprinkle in these elements lightly. Occasional guitar or other instruments are permitted, but please check with the organizers first.
